Ask the Army Corps to Protect Indiana Waterways from Inappropriate Ditching

To [Decision Maker],

Inappropriate dredging and ditching of streams is damaging Indiana's waterways and is not in the public interest. Clearing and dredging of creeks and streams damages local waterways and increases erosion, sedimentation and nutrient pollution downstream.

Ditching and dredging of streams is common practice in Indiana and is often performed with little public notice or opportunity for public comment. The Army Corps/IDEM should require individual permits for ditching proposals and only approve ditching projects that are necessary and that can prove they will uphold water quality standards when constructed.
