Reject Cuts to SNAP in the 2020 White House Budget
Dear [Decision Maker],
I am writing to ask you to oppose the President's Fiscal Year 2020 proposed budget. The budget proposes devastating cuts to safety net programs that help millions of struggling households across the country. If enacted, millions of low-income households would face even more uncertainty about their survival.
I am especially concerned about proposed cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps). SNAP helps approximately 1.6 million New York City residents - and more than 38 million Americans across the country - afford the food they need. SNAP is our Nation's first line of defense against hunger. The budget's proposed $220 billion cut to SNAP would have a devastating impact on many of our neighbors, including seniors, veterans, working people and those supporting families with young children.
As someone who cares deeply about ensuring fellow New Yorkers have enough to eat, I urge you to oppose the President's budget and instead to support a budget that would protect and strengthen federal nutrition programs that provide a critical safety net and help millions of struggling households. Together we can help New Yorkers in need. Thank you for your continued support.
