Thank you again for your help!
THANK YOU!!!
Together we exceeded my 2023 goal! Your contributions added up to $3,750 (as of 8/24/23).
The hike on Saturday morning Aug 19 was damp and misty - what passes as normal for this summer. But it was beautiful and peaceful as ever, and the grey morning highlighted the gorgeous mosses, ferns, and leaves that give our Green Mountains their name.
I hiked a section south of Lincoln Gap, including Sunset Ledge. It has been a while since I hiked alone, and I had forgotten how I relish the quiet of the trail. Because I was moving without human chatter, the birds and chipmunks froze but didn't flee as I stepped past them. I stopped more, and noticed more. I returned deeply refreshed.
Re-reading what I wrote above it sounds corny, and I guess that's what hiking brings out in me, but every word of it is true.
Thank you for supporting the Long Trail, and for your support of me.
Love to you, and peace where you find it,
Porter
NOW MORE THAN EVER
Last year my supporters and I raised over $2,800 for the Green Mountain Club, and I eagerly signed up to participate again this year when the invitation came.
But then our beloved state was hit with devastating rains.
Now more than ever our help is needed to restore and protect the Long Trail.
Not only does the Long Trail offer hikers solace, recreation and beauty - it also brings hikers to dozens of small towns throughout the state, and those towns rely on hikers for critical revenue. Getting trails reopened and investing in their resilience will help get those communities back on their feet as well.
The Green Mountain Club postponed the official Long Trail Day to October, but I am still planning to hike a local section that is not storm damaged on the original date of August 19 (weather permitting!) and I hope to reach my fundraising goal of $3,500 by then.
To kick off this year's campaign, I donated $350, which is 10% of my goal.
I hope you'll join me today in making a contribution to support this vital resource. Please consider a donation if you can.
Thank you for your support, and happy hiking-
Porter
