Oppose OTC Hearing Aid Bills, S. 670/H.R. 1652

IHS and Elite Logos

Calling all Elite Hearing Network Patients and Providers!

Lend your voice to our advocacy effort!  The Over-The-Counter Hearing Aid Act (S.670/H.R.1652) would place patients at risk by mandating the FDA to create an over the counter (OTC) hearing aid classification.

Using the form below, in just minutes, you can send a personalized email to your two U.S. Senators and one U.S. Representative expressing concern about these bills. First, complete the contact information section, and in the message field, you can either replace, edit, or add to the text provided to further customize your message.  We encourage you to customize the message to increase the impact it has on your elected officials.  You may choose to share an experience you, a friend or a loved one has had with an OTC device (internet hearing aid or personal sound amplifier), or perhaps highlight the value of using a licensed professional in addressing your hearing loss.

When you press "send," our alert program will automatically address the email to your elected officials based on your address.  No need to write their names in your email, or add your name to the end of the optional text.  It's all done for you and it's that easy!

S.670/H.R.1652, Over the Counter Hearing Aid Act

Dear [Decision Maker],

As a constituent, I am writing in strong opposition to S.670/H.R.1652, the Over-the-Counter Hearing Aid Act. This controversial legislation would direct the FDA to create a new over the counter classification for hearing aids for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss. This action would come with significant risks to patient health and outcomes, and the overall perception of hearing aids.

For these reasons, I ask you to share these concerns about S.670/H.R.1652 with the leaders of the Senate HELP and House Energy & Commerce Committees and require that strong provisions are put in place to minimize the impact on patient safety and outcomes, including the development of studies to assess if an OTC approach to hearing healthcare is safe and effective for individuals before it is enacted.

Thank you for your consideration. I welcome your questions or further discussion.
