As I have moved to the "maintenance" side of my breast cancer, I recently had a chance to "pay it forward" and help someone on this journey as several helped me. I can't tell you how invaluable it is to talk with someone that has been through treatment, understands the jargon, knows how you are feeling, and knows all those little tips like what kind of wig to buy to help you get through those first few months. My life long friend Amy, who was first my camper, and later a staff member with me at Camp Tockwogh was one such person for me. Amy is very involved with Living Beyond Breast Cancer and I've supported her over the years. Little did I know that I would be someone trying to be "Livnig Beyond Breast Cancer" myself.
Amy writes on her team page:
"This year I am dedicating my yoga practice to my friend Pam who was diagnosed in the fall. I have known Pam for forever and have always looked up to her. She was and is so cool and calm. These qualities and more have helped her "thrive and survive" through surgery, treatment and the side effects that many of us know keep on giving. She was and is an inspiration to me - and she helped propel me through a lot treatment changes in 2019."
As you can imagine, I am very touched by what she said and hope she realizes how much she helped and supported me. She was a lifeline in a time when I felt like I was drowning. I will be forever grateful and hope I can continue to help others as she helped me.
Unfortunately, not everyone has this friend to guide them through this process. That's were organizations like Living Beyond Breast Cancer plays a role. I've therefore decided to join Amy and am participatintg in Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s Reach & Raise. I have started a team and would love for you to join me!
Support me and Living Beyond Breast Cancer and the money I raise will help LBBC continue to connect people with trusted breast cancer information and a community of support. Their vision is a world where no one impacted by breast cancer feels uninformed or alone.
Since its launch in Philadelphia in 2002, Reach & Raise has attracted more than $4 million in individual support! In 2018 alone, they served more than 600,000 people through their comprehensive website, informative webinars and publications and in-person conferences. With your help, they can increase their reach and help even more people impacted by this disease.
Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s s commitment to its mission and to being responsible stewards of your charitable contributions is impressive. Every year since 2004, they have received the highest rating from Charity Navigator (4 stars). I am proud to be supporting them and I hope you will join me by registering or donating today!
