Candace L. Thomas, Q.C.
Candace was appointed as Nova Scotia Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General, and as Deputy Minister of the new Office of Social Innovation and Integrative Approaches in April 2020. A graduate of Dalhousie Law School, prior to her appointments, Candace practiced corporate law as a partner in the Halifax Office of Stewart McKelvey. She received her Queen’s Counsel designation in 2017 and was selected by her peers to be included in the 2017 - 2019 editions of The Best Lawyers in Canada.
Candace is an active community leader - a champion of literacy, education and self-empowerment, she has served a wide range of organizations. She is Chair of the Board of Governors of Dalhousie University, previously served as a Director and Vice Chair of the Black Business Initiative Society and co-chaired the inaugural capital campaign for the Halifax Central Library.
