Dr. Valerie Verge
Dr. Valerie Verge is a neuroscientist, Professor of Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology and Director of the Cameco MS Neuroscience Research Centre (CMSNRC) at the University of Saskatchewan. Originally from Montreal and trained at McGill, she has been in SK for 28 years, since meeting the SK farmer on an airplane ride during her postdoctoral studies in Stockholm, Sweden. Dr. Verge has seen the CMSNRC grow from a vision of Dr. Walter Hader’s in the early 90s to the thriving research centre that it is today, with eminent scientists leading the efforts to help those with MS from bench to bedside. Her longstanding federally funded (including the MS Society) research program focusses on nervous system repair with a particular emphasis on developing strategies that enhance the ability of the nervous system to repair itself, including remyelination. She is a strong advocate for neuroscience research nationally and internationally and has received many distinctions, including being the 2019 SK WAMS honouree.
