Frequently Asked Questions

About MS Walk

What is MS Walk?

The MS Walk is a community-driven event for people living with or affected by MS as well as those who want to help create a world free of MS. Typically, the MS Society of Canada and the MS community come together annually across the country to build awareness for multiple sclerosis and raise funds through MS Walk. As we face a global pandemic, we are unable to gather in-person to show our support for those affected by MS, but we can still act.

For 2021, we encourage you to decide what MS Walk looks like for you. That could include tuning into the live-stream virtual rally on May 30, walking around the block on your own or taking a stroll in your backyard with members of your household. We ask that however you choose to participate, that you closely monitor information on COVID-19 as released by the Public Health Agency of Canada and your local public health authorities.

When is MS Walk?

That’s up to you! Although we encourage people to take part in MS Walk throughout the month of May, you can choose what works best for you.

Regardless of when you choose to walk, we hope you will join us virtually on Sunday, May 30 at 12:00 ET for a live-stream rally featuring members of the MS community. We’re delighted to come together to celebrate MS Walk and World MS Day!

Where is MS Walk?

Ensuring the health and safety of our entire community — people affected by MS, volunteers, fundraisers, donors, staff - remains our top priority. Although COVID-19 restrictions may differ across the country, we have made the decision to refrain from holding in-person MS Walks. Given the nature and unprecedented changes brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to ensure that our participants, staff, and volunteers can move forward with planning for MS Walks in 2021.

While there will be no physical, in-person MS Walk events in 2021, participants can choose to host their own MS Walk in whichever way they choose whether that’s in their own backyard, around the block, or virtually! Regardless of how you take part, please ensure that you closely monitor information on COVID-19 as released by the Public Health Agency of Canada and your local public health authorities.

What if my community is not listed?

As we will not be holding in-person events this year, you can register for any location you choose - regardless of geography! If you have friends or family who are registered for the MS Walk in another community, join their team and get in on the fun. Or click here to participate with other Canadians from coast-to-coast as we walk toward a world free of MS.

How do I participate in the virtual MS Walk?

For 2021, we encourage you to decide what MS Walk looks like for you. That could include walking around the block on your own, taking a stroll in your backyard with members of your household, or gathering with friends and family virtually. We ask that however you choose to participate, that you closely monitor information on COVID-19 as released by the Public Health Agency of Canada and your local public health authorities.

Regardless of how you choose to participate, make sure to save the date for our virtual rally. We’re delighted to be hosting an MS Walk live-stream event on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at 12:00 ET. Join us to hear from the MS community and have an opportunity to share your own photos and stories to celebrate MS Walk and World MS Day. Stay tuned for exciting details about how we will come together to show that no person living with MS is alone.

Can I fundraise by going door-to-door?

The MS Society of Canada does not encourage participants to solicit funds by door-to-door canvassing.

Where does the money raised though MS Walk go?

People living with MS across Canada are at the heart of everything we do. The current health crisis has impacted all Canadians, and the need for information, resources and support programs for people affected by MS is as urgent and critical as ever. The money you raise ensures that people affected by MS receive quality access and support that they need in whichever community they live in. It is our priority to ensure we support programs and services that people can access across the country regardless of where they live. Some examples of this programming include virtual wellness, 1:1 peer support, and our MS Knowledge Network.
