Much good can come when you marry grass roots ideas and efforts with larger scale support from researchers, medicine and health workers. Portage & Rural MS Support is one of those organizations that recognizes a need, knows how to meet that need and successfully does so. Helping someone with multiple sclerosis mow their lawn, carry groceries or complete an everyday task is the MO for the group. In addition to this, the group organizes guest speakers to build knowledge and provide areas of medical support (i.e. reflexologists and a mobile massage therapist). This is one example of how a community rallies together to do meaningful work which directly impacts those with MS. On a larger scale, The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada promotes multiple sclerosis research and provides education and services to people with MS and their families and caregivers. Being a small part of something bigger and seeing what research, treatment care and collaboration can do, is one of the reasons I ride. And, of course this fund-raising event is made possible by generous friends and family. Thanks so much in advance for your donation. I've said it before and I'll say it now, "I owe you one."!
