First, I am as usual too long winded, so if you just have time to donate, scroll or skim way down to the end of this long posting & find & click on the donate now button.
Welcome from myself & Team Pirateship. If you are a past supporter, thank you & welcome back. If you are here in 2021 as someone new to support us in whatever way you can, financially &/or otherwise in this year's battle to end MS, a big first time welcome to our energetic high spirited & motivated team.
Thank you to all that are part of our team by donating to the War to End MS through our team,, as you helped Team Pirate Ship to raise over $25,000 last year in our first Covid-times ride, making us the 2nd highest fund-raising team in the Airdrie-Olds 2020 MS Ride. Although that ride was a virtual ride last year, each team choosing when and where and how far to ride, Team Pirate Ship made sure we earned your support by riding mostly as a team a regular non-covid year ride distance of over 80km a day over two sequential days in July.
Thank you to our early Pirate Ship Team donating supporters in 2021, especially those who supported my double-my-age 130km one day ride happening to celebrate my 65th birthday on Easter Monday, 05 April. You have humbled me and have my deepest gratitude for not only helping me reach my April 05 kickstart goal of 1,000 but already pushed me beyond my full 2021 initial goal of 3,500!, causing me to now try and raise 4,500 by our Aug 21/22 ride days, which would be the largest amount I have personally raised in any one year for MS.
The Airdrie-Olds MS Ride is an in-person ride this year, but it is only a one-day ride with staggered team starts to spread out the riders, with no collective gathering of the riders on the Saturday evening that normally preceeds the Sunday 2nd day of riding.
However, Team Pirate Ship will do a two-day ride, Saturday as part of the regular MS Ride this year, and then do a consecutive 2nd day of riding the day after to make sure we earn the donations that will be provided through our team.
We will thus continue this year in participating in this battle in the War to end MS, riding for all Canadians who live with & struggle with this disease every day, including for Luke Faubert, one of our team riders, who has MS, & for Isaac Faubert, who may have MS, & for those that do not yet have the disease but will, much of the funds raised from this ride going to MS research on many fronts, & some for support of those afflicted with MS through funding of MS Society client support programs.
Thus I continue to train hard for all those affected by MS, & also in thanks to all who support our team. I do not take your support for granted, but ride hard to earn it, & in fact have to date been doing more training km's & more hills this year than in any prior year. I will be ready to earn your support when the big ride days come again, as our team will ride two days again despite Covid-19.
The core of our team was at one time our Faubert family, all 6 of the Faubert family involved as riders or volunteers, but now it is an expanded team of spouses & partners & extended family & friends, the team growing each year, a team of big hearts and positive spirit, all welcome to the cause (1st year riders were just Luke & cousin Meghan, thanks Meghan for starting all this). Thank you to all the members of our expanding team, volunteers & riders, helping us to be a bigger part of this ride & it's important fund raising.
Thanks first to all the volunteers, & corporate sponsors too, that make this large Airdri-Olds MS Ride possible, so many people not on bikes and yet without which there would not be the very successful ride this particular ride is, virtual or not, the Airdrie/Olds ride being one of the premier MS Rides in Canada.
Thanks to all the contributors that helped me raise from your heartfelt generous & collective support over $3,000 in the ride last year again for MS research & support programs for those with the disease, & for helping our small PIrate Ship team finish in 2nd place in fundraising last year!, raising almost as much in 2020 ($25,790) as in 2019 when we raised over $26,000, & thus being one of the top 10 teams for at least the sixth year in a row, perhaps even longer! Let's together do it again!
Under Covid-19, & due also to the continued bleak oil & gas economy in Alberta, where most of our team supporters reside, it is understandable that some that have donated in the past will not be able to donate this year, or not as much. For those who are having a tough time of it financially, we fully understand if unable to help to the level you would otherwise have, and I pray that we will all come out of this time eventually stronger than we came in. Thank you if you indeed can help financially this year, as a new donor or a repeat donor. Our team's contributors, not the riders, not the volunteers, are the most important part of our team. If you donate to the MS Bike Ride, you are contributing to programs which are having considerable success & making a difference in peoples lives, & helping to find better treatments & perhaps someday a cure.
If you want to do more yourself above contributing financially &/or praying for a safe & successful ride - consider riding on our Pirate Ship team, or consider joining another team if you strangely don't want to ride with our team, even though we cannot have a regular beer garden tent this year for you to join us in after the first of two day's riding (but we will have our own back yard beer garden). If you cannot ride, volunteers are needed each year on the event weekend at checkstops & other locations scheduled for the ride, and you can still help our team out by just promoting us with your family & friends & through social media.
Time will tell whether our annual MS Ride Pirate Ship Team fundraiser pre-ride party held each year in Calgary (except last year) will be held in 2021 sometime this summer, but I will update you as the months go .
That is all for now. I will keep you updated when I am able to with what is happenning by updating this page & maybe getting out some big email blasts or some social media posts.
You can also follow me on facebook by sending me a friend request, or follow my on Strava, the app I track most of my bigger training rides on.
