Although the 2020 MS Bike Ottawa-Cornwall event in mid-August has been cancelled, this doesn’t mean that I won’t be on my bike this summer to raise funds for the MS Society. I’m planning to ride a 100 km route each day as part of a weekend-long online event on July 25 & 26 being organized by the virtual PwC MS Bike community.
Riding solo - instead of being a part of a supported event where there are washrooms and refueling stations manned by volunteers every 25 km or so – will be a very different kind of challenge. However, I already have a couple of 100 km rides under my belt this season so I’m confident that I’ll be prepared to complete it.
As someone who now works in the area of disability support programs, I am very aware that the current pandemic has had a huge impact on people with a chronic disease like multiple sclerosis and their families. Support organizations, such as the MS Society, also face unprecedented challenges now that many fundraising activities have been cancelled and many people may not be able to make their regular donations.
It’s always been an easy decision for me to contribute to this fundraising event. If you are able to contribute too that would be awesome!
