April 7, 2021 STRENGTH, HOPE, COURAGE
Welcome Rivendell Rollers!
The MS Society’s website states that my health and the health of the MS community is paramount. 12 months of COVID-19 will once again take the MS Walk into virtual mode. I understand that financial needs are great everywhere and you will donate as you see fit.
It has been 12 months of COVID lockdown, and the end is anyone’s guess. Honestly, it feels like a lifetime. Sometimes it is very lonely. We are allowed window visits and outdoor visits when the weather permits. I am so fortunate to live in a facility that is doing its very best to take care of all of us and I have the resources to keep me somewhat occupied. April 17 will mark my 7th year as a resident at the Saskatoon Convalescent Home.
Now for the unfortunate part. I would like people to know the struggle that I face. My fingers, arms, and now ankles continue to contracture and my arms and shoulders are sore and tired. My right driving arm is often so stiff that I cannot maneuver my wheelchair on my own. I have required complete assistance for everything for the past 3 years. Being warm with adequate pain control is important. I am looking forward to a new wheelchair with head control to drive.
My favorite horse poster says “STRENGTH, HOPE, COURAGE”. I will continue through all of life’s dramatic ups and downs and hopefully the pace will remain a steady one that I can keep up to.
Did you know Canada has the highest rate of multiple sclerosis in the world? MS Walk is not far away. Please support me in my journey and help support Canadians affected by multiple sclerosis. Donate here. (insert link to your fundraising personal
As I close, I know that our current situation will come to an end in the foreseeable future when COVID vaccinations are complete. There will be smiling, laughter and hugs for everyone.
Register as soon as you are able. Thanks.
God bless everyone as you help me contribute to a cause that I am passionate about. This marks Rivendelle Rollers' 15th year. To date we have raised over $50,000! WOW! Thank you with all my heart!
I chose the name for my team Rivendell Rollers because of the J.R.R. Tolkien books; The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings.
The tranquility of Rivendell* is something to strive for. The parallels the author makes with Heaven and God make it all the more special. Weary travelers find tranquility and seemingly endless time in Rivendell.
* Rivendell is about a place in J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium. An Elven outpost in middle earth, Rivendell is a fictional realm created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Rivendell means "deep valley of the cleft". Rivendell is located at the edge of a narrow gorge of a River but is well hidden. The climate is cool-temperate and semi-– continental with moderately warm summers (perfect for people with MS). Rivendell is protected by the powers of its lord, Elrond. * adapted from Wikipedia
Our life here on earth is temporary. As I travel along the low valleys and the high mountains, I find it very hard sometimes; but MS is a part of my life and I strive to try and embrace the journey.
Thank you for walking with me!
