Celebrating the end of 56 weeks of chemo!
Celebrating the end of 56 weeks of chemo!

Team Johnson

It's been almost 4 years since Dad was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and over the past 4 years he's proven how strong he truly is!

It all began in the summer of 2015, when Dad was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.  Fall 2015, in preparation for prostate surgery, a scan revealed a tumor and a subsequent diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma. After triaging 2 primary cancers, surgery for the prostate was completed and then January 2016 began the 56 week chemo treatment for Multiple Myeloma. Yes, I said 56 weeks, over a year! Most people don't complete the full 56 weeks, but not my Dad.  He stayed with it to the bitter end and stood tall throughout.  I don't even think he missed a single Mooseheads game that season! Dad puts on a brave face and makes the most of every break from treatments, spending time with family and friends and travelling with his bride of 55 years!

Dad is about to tackle his third dance with chemo, a clinical trial thats starts any day now, and along with many friends, he has his wife, 3 children (and their spouses), 5 grandchildren (and their spouses) and of course, his darling 7 month old great-grandson fighting by his side.  Every step of the way, for many years to come, we will face this head on together, as a family.

UPDATE: September 10 - Unfortunately, Dad did not qualify for the clinical trial, and the doctors feel he cannot wait any longer for the next potential clinical trial, so he will be starting a new round of chemo this week.  Prayers that this round of chemo will be effective and get his counts down.
