Dear [Decision Maker],
The Humane Cosmetics Act, HR 2790, would end the use of live animals for safety testing by the cosmetics industry. Much of the industry already relies on more predictive non-animal test methods for evaluating the safety and efficacy of cosmetics, demonstrating that an end to the use of animals will not negatively impact human health.A nationwide survey in 2014, the year this bill was first introduced, showed that 67% of Americans opposed the use of animals for testing cosmetics. Support has grown since then. Yet members of Congress continue to demonstrate indifference to the availability of a wide array of modern-day cosmetics testing options that ensure human safety without harming animals. Your help is urgently needed to bring this bill forward before it dies, once again, at the end of the current session of Congress. The time for adherence to archaic and cruel practices has long passed. The U.S. must demonstrate the forward-thinking leadership for which we are known around the world by taking a firm stand against testing methods that have been discredited and discarded. Let the U.S. join the ever-growing number of countries that have adopted--and that continue to adopt--cruelty-free cosmetics standards. As your constituent, I hope that you will take my concerns to heart and act in the best interest of animals and human safety by helping to pass the Humane Cosmetics Act this year. Thank you for your consideration.
