Support the EACH Woman Act to End Bans on Abortion Coverage

take action

The Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH Woman) Act, was introduced in January 2017 with more than 100 cosponsors, led by Representatives Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), together with Pro-Choice Caucus co-chairs Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Louise Slaughter (D-NY). This bill would end federal bans like the Hyde Amendment, which deny abortion coverage from women enrolled in Medicaid and other federal health programs. Such bans restrict a woman’s ability to make her own faith-informed decisions about ending a pregnancy. They most hurt individuals struggling to make ends meet, who are more likely to be women of color, immigrant women, young people, and transgender or gender non-conforming individuals. The EACH Woman Act would lift these barriers and ensure every person who receives care or insurance through the federal government will have coverage for all pregnancy-related care, including abortion; and prohibit federal, state and local legislators from interfering in decisions of private insurers to offer abortion coverage.
