How to Help

Suspend the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center director!

NY TIMES I.jpgDo you agree that forcing pigs and cows to overbreed, abandoning newborn sheep in fields to starve or to be killed by predators, or immobilizing a cow’s head in a cage-like device for cruel breeding research is torturous? By recognizing these egregious acts that are taking place in the name of research, we have a moral responsibility to act as one and be the voice for the animals.

What You Can Do

Please ask Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to suspend U.S. Meat Animal Research Center's current director, Emil J. Pollack, pending the outcome of the USDA's investigation. The center's practices were exposed in a recent New York Times article.

Please suspend U.S. Meat Animal Research Center Director Pollack!

Dear [Decision Maker],

The recent New York Times article "U.S. Research Lab Lets Livestock Suffer in Quest for Profit" candidly denotes the horrific exploitation of living beings primarily for profit, global marketplace dominance, and meat consumption - all under the guise of human health, wellness, hunger relief, and good business practices.

As head of the USDA, the center's actions are your responsibility. Thank you for taking immediate action to create an updated Animal Welfare Strategy plan, as well as convening an independent panel to review the Agricultural Research Service's animal handling protocols, policies, and research procedures. Both steps were mentioned in recent media reports.

For now, I ask that you immediately suspend Director Pollack pending the outcome of these actions.

Sincerely,
