Take the first step in creating change: Introduce Yourself!

Take the first step in creating change: Introduce Yourself!

Successful advocacy involves making friends.  Your legislators are your voice in government; they want to know what is important to you!

So reach out, introduce yourself, and start building a relationship!

Here’s how:

Write a letter to your state and federal legislators.

  • Introduce yourself as a constituent,
  • tell them about yourself,
  •  inform them about why eating disorders are important to you,
  • then ask for their support.

Use the template below as an example; edit to fit your personal message, then press send.

  • Your State Senator or Senators
  • Your State Representative or Representatives

Introducing Myself to You

Dear [Decision Maker],

Thank you for all that you do, and for your dedication to your constituents.

With a lifetime prevalence of 30million, everyone knows someone with an eating disorder. In this legislative session, I hope that you will keep this in mind, and think of me, and your many other constituents, whose lives have been touched by these devastating illnesses if you have the opportunity to support policies related to eating disorders.

Please take a moment to visit the National Eating Disorders Association website to learn more: www.nationaleatingdisorders.org.

Thank you for your attention, your concern, and your strong leadership.
