The John G.L. Cabot Award is presented annually to those whose work reflects a steadfast commitment to rule of law, free enterprise, inclusive growth, and the advancement of principles that support these ideals in our society.
The Award is named for John G. L. Cabot, in recognition of his long and distinguished support of the New England Legal Foundation (NELF), service as a member of NELF’s board of directors from 1978-1994, and his continued support as Trustee.
This year, for our 10th anniversary of this prestigious award, NELF is recognizing two outstanding leaders in their fields.
Regina Jones is Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM) and a member of the company's Executive Council. In this role, Jones oversees ADM's global legal and regulatory affairs, compliance initiatives, security operations and government relations efforts.
Jones joined ADM in September 2023. Before that, she served as Chief Legal Officer for Baker Hughes, a global leader in the energy technology sector. For the last three decades, Jones has held domestic and international legal roles with responsibility for complex legal environments across the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Middle East with expatriate assignments in Paris, France, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Jones previously served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Delek U.S. Holdings, Inc., and Delek Logistics Partners LP. Her career includes varied senior leadership roles in legal, supply chain and information technology with Schlumberger, Dynegy Marketing & Trade, Shell Oil Company and El Paso Energy.
Jones currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for South Texas College of Law and has previously served on boards of directors for the Houston March of Dimes, Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, Child Advocates and the State Bar of Texas. Jones has also assumed a role on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Manufacturers.
Jones earned her Bachelor of Business Administration, General Business from Sam Houston State University, and her Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law with an emphasis in computer and technology law.
Grace Lee is the Regional President for Eastern MA for M&T and is a demonstrated leader with over 35 years of experience in the public and private sector. Throughout her career she has had a deep commitment to social justice and equity advocating for underrepresented groups. Prior to joining M&T, Lee was with the law firm of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC where she served as the Vice Chair of the Public Finance Group.
Prior to joining Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC, Lee served as First Deputy Treasurer and General Counsel for Massachusetts State Treasury, where she was the first Asian American to serve as First Deputy Treasurer and also the first Asian American to serve as chief legal counsel to a statewide officeholder in the history of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As First Deputy Treasurer, she was responsible for the management and oversight of the Massachusetts State Treasury.
As First Deputy Treasurer, Lee was statutorily authorized to assume the responsibilities of the State Treasurer in his absence or designation. She also oversaw the operations of the Treasury and its divisions, such as Cash Management, Debt Management, Abandoned Property and Water Pollution Abatement Trust, and Administration and Finance. Additionally, as a member of the Massachusetts bar, she was responsible for managing the legal affairs of the Treasury, which includes: compliance with state and federal regulations and statutes; drafting policies, and managing litigation by outside counsels and agencies.
In addition to serving as First Deputy Treasurer and General Counsel, Lee served as Interim Executive Director to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Asian American Commission, which was established pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws c. 3, §67(a) and became effective October 29, 2006. The Asian American Commission is a permanent body dedicated to political advocacy on behalf of Asian Americans throughout Massachusetts.
The John G.L. Cabot Award Dinner is NELF’s largest fundraiser of the year and will be held at the Omni Hotel in the Seaport district of Boston, on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

The New England Legal Foundation advances four mission objectives: promoting free enterprise, defending property rights, standing for rule of law and advocating inclusive growth.
These foundational values create the best opportunity for progress to lift all people with the rising economic tides. For nearly 50 years, NELF has filed amicus briefs in the state and federal courts in New England and in the United States Supreme Court, to advance this mission and build and shape a body of law favorable to emerging and existing technologies.
We depend entirely on tax-deductible charitable donations to support this work and we thank you for your support.
