Tell Congress: We need health care that works!

50,000 letters to Congress – can you help us reach our goal before World MS Day ends at midnight on May 27th?

Congress is sorting through the barrage of recommendations and ideas on health care reform. We need a surge of grassroots support to help make sure people living with MS and their families don't get lost in the shuffle.

Dear [Decision Maker],

For the first time in nearly 17 years, you and your colleagues in Congress are taking on the difficult but critical task of reforming health care for all Americans. I want to thank you for tackling the important task of fixing our broken health care system. I also want to ask that you please remember the more than 400,000 Americans living with multiple sclerosis and their families.

Americans living with chronic conditions such as MS are particularly vulnerable in the current system of care. That's because they need a spectrum of preventive, medical, rehabilitative, mental health, and long-term care to live their lives to the fullest.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has developed a set of Health Care Reform Principles that I want to share with you to help guide your work.

Volunteers led the development of these important principles, which include:

- Accessible health care coverage
- Affordable health care services and coverage
- Standards for coverage of specific treatments
- Elimination of disparities in care
- Comprehensive, quality health care available to all
- Increased value of health care
- Access to high-quality, long-term supports and services

A complete outline of the Society's Health Care Reform Principles is also available at www.nationalMSsociety.org/HealthCarePrinciples (downloadable PDF).
