Sample Team Recruitment Letter: First-Timer Team

Dear Friends and Family,

I wanted to tell you about a big challenge I’m taking on this fall. I committed to walk 60 miles (yes, really!) over the course of three days in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day®. Those of you who know me well know that there must be a really good reason that I would volunteer to exercise this much, and there is. It’s to raise money for a cause that’s very near and dear to my heart, to help end breast cancer. Breast cancer has been a part of my life since I was 15, when my dear sweet Nana Jean was diagnosed. She fought bravely for many years, but unfortunately she passed away when I was 25 and my greatest sadness was that she never got to meet my kids.

When Aunt Jenny was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, we all asked the question: Is there anything I can do? Well, I have the answer. We can walk.

I'm asking everyone in our family and all of my friends to join Team Jenny and walk 60 miles over three days to celebrate her spirit and raise funds to end breast cancer through the Komen 3-Day.

I hope to raise at least [$amount] for breast cancer research and community programs that might save the lives of countless other mothers, sisters and aunts. Together, Team Jenny can do it. You can count on me to do everything I can to help you train, raise funds and prepare for this incredible journey.

There's an African proverb that says "If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." If we all go together, I know we will go far.

Click the link at the end of this email to join my team, or email me directly at and I’ll help you register. (Or you can call 800-996-3DAY and the nice people at the 3-Day® can sign you up over the phone.)

This is a huge deal for me, and I’m looking forward to having you on the team!
