Stop Raising our Taxes!
Dear [Decision Maker],
As a constituent, I urge you to vote NO on the numerous tax hikes that are making their way through the legislature. We're already reeling from the $6.2 billion tax hike that took effect just months ago. That's just one reason why you should oppose the $2.3 billion car tax hike found in Assembly Bill 8 and Senate Bill 11 as well as schemes to increase taxes on tobacco, oil, and soda, which could be considered as soon as next month. More taxes on these products would be highly regressive and place large financial strains on families already struggling to get by in our sluggish economy. If you raise the price of a pack of cigarettes by $2, that takes money directly out of the pockets of working people. At the same time, it hurts sales at stores in our state. This policy fails us all, smokers and non-smokers alike.Because of high taxes and excessive regulations, California is currently one of the worst places in America to start a business. In fact, the Tax Foundation found that only two states ranked worse in their Business Tax Climate Index. The current tax system in the Golden State has led many to flee for opportunities in more favorable tax climates. The state has lost over $30 billion in wealth between 1995 and 2010 alone. Are MORE taxes really the answer?California's residents deserve tax relief, not tax hikes, especially at a time of rising costs and economic uncertainty for families. Please stand up for taxpayers and oppose plans to raise taxes on cars, tobacco, "sugary" drinks, oil, and other products.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP]
