Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery
I am thrilled to be joining Dancing with the Docs this year—it is yet another way to contribute to this great region we call home.
As an Otolaryngologist—Head and Neck Surgeon and a Hyperbaric Medicine Physician, I have the great fortune of collaborating with so many wonderful people. Patients, families, nurses, physicians, audiologists, students, speech language pathologists, respiratory therapists, administrative assistants, orderlies, porters and social workers are but a few of the people that I work with on a typical day in our clinics, units and operating rooms. These people are all contributing in the hopes of helping the people we serve flourish. If leaving my comfort zone and getting out on the dance floor can somehow help these amazing folks and help someone thrive, then I say, “Bring it On! Woo hoo!!!”.
This year I will be dancing and fundraising for two initiatives: Expanding our Voice Program and Improving Endocrine Surgery in the region.
Our voice is so important! It allows you to sing to the rafters, whisper to a friend, tell your stories and cheer with excitement! Imagine life without your voice—it would be difficult. As Otolaryngologists, we manage voice disorders both medically and surgically and often with our colleagues in Speech Language Pathology. Our region is in significant need of an expanded Voice Program to best serve our patients. Your contributions will help fund the necessary technology and equipment to best diagnose and manage voice disorders. Funds will not only advance our program forward but also ensure that we are training our next generation of healthcare providers to do the same.
Endocrine Surgery in the neck includes surgery on the Thyroid and Parathyroid glands. The incidence of Thyroid Cancer is on the rise with more people than ever requiring treatment. Parathyroid disease can lead to many issues including kidney stones, osteoporosis, pain and memory loss. For some people, managing parathyroid disease is a necessary step to obtaining a kidney transplant! Together with my colleagues in Urology, Endocrinology, Anesthesia, Nephrology, Family Medicine, Nuclear Medicine and Radiology, we manage Thyroid and Parathyroid problems to improve the quality of life of our patients. Your donation will help ensure that this surgical program continues to evolve.
I am excited to work with my dance partner at Arthur Murray School of Dance. Hopefully the medley will get you up on your feet, heart pumping, hands clapping and filled with positive vibes for the future. Who knows what’s in store—my children would have me do the Floss while my parents would have me dance the Highland Fling!
Please donate to our efforts by clicking Donate Now. If you have the chance, please also join my husband, children and I on April 6th, 2019 at Lac Lemay to support not only our team, but also the entire Dancing with the Docs crew. We are stronger together!!!
