Welcome to My Personal Page
July 19, 2018 was my turn to hear those words…..”you have breast cancer”. Ugh.
As I’ve heard SO many patients describe it in past, it literally turns your life upside down.
It wasn’t until I had two biopsies and an MRI that it was confirmed – I had cancer in both breasts. In fact, I was told I had a total of 5 tumours. That’s when panic set in. It was beyond overwhelming. All I could think about was my family and my three daughters and the impact this would have on them. How do I tell them? Since 2015 we have lost four family members to cancer. Am I going to be number five? Will I get to see my girls marry and have children?
I turned to my wonderful circle of family, friends and colleagues for emotional support, and to the incredibly talented Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre team for their care. I was surrounded by a team of knowledgeable, experienced, compassionate and caring medical professionals that guided me through countless decisions that needed to be made leading up to surgery and throughout treatment.
Fast forward one year later, and today there is “no evidence of disease”. Despite this, unfortunately, cancer recurrence is now my constant companion.
However, I also live with a renewed sense of gratitude. And that is why I am participating in THE RIDE again this year. I could think of no better way to express my gratitude than to raise funds for cancer research at The Ottawa Hospital.
I am back on the spin bike at GoodLife and my commitment is to ride 200 km between July 19 and August 22nd, which will mark my one year anniversary from the date of my surgery.
I am unapologetically inviting you to support my RIDE! My goal is to raise $1,500 and I hope I can count on you to help me get there.
Thank you in advance for considering. And thank you for your incredible support this past year. I feel very blessed.
