On April 18th 2020, I'm going to jump into the waters at Brewer Pool to take part in a very special swim meet. It's called OlymPINK and it's more than just a swim meet -- it's a fundraiser to support important technology needs at the Ottawa Hospital's Breast Health Centre. There will be well over 100 other swimmers, a bunch of former Canadian Olympian swimmers and breast cancer survivors.
It's important. Because if you think about it, there is likely someone in your family, your neighbourhood, or your work community that has been touched by breast cancer. 1 in 8 women in Ottawa will receive this devastating diagnosis. So raising money for important things like a dedicated breast MRI machine is not only about helping those women, it's about helping all women with better screening tools. And it's about helping our community as a whole take better care of each other. On April 18, 2020, I will be competing at the OlymPINK swim meet in support of my swim mate Andrea and everyone affected by the words breast cancer.
It is my hope that you will consider supporting this event in a way that is meaningful to you.
