Playing dirty might have its place in the trenches of Big Ten football, but it’s got no place in the lives of Michigan State University employees and their partners. Tell that to former Spartan football player Mitch Lyons, Republican candidate for the university’s Board of Trustees. His platform? Opposing domestic partner benefits at MSU.When Lyons was nominated Saturday, incumbent trustee Don Nugent was attacked for voting for the benefits and Lyons praised for opposing such “social engineering” measures. Lyons promises to instill “conservative” and “Christian” values at MSU, and that means taking MSU in a direction that’s inappropriate for a public university and wrong for MSU employees and their partners. It means discrimination, and that can only mean bad things for MSU.Take a moment to tell the board of trustees that domestic benefits shouldn’t be sacked!
