Beating the Odds
"BEATING THE ODDS" Beating the odds against PD; a personal journey Having had Young-Onset Parkinson’s Disease (PD) for over 16 years now, I can attest to the fact that today there is a better understanding of the genetic underpinnings of PD and research is unveiling some promising results identifying new effective therapies. After many years of keeping the diagnosis known only to my immediate family members and close friends, I have since become a strong advocate and inspirational spokesperson and a leader in the PD community. I have brought my skills and perspectives about living well with PD and describe my own successes and experiences at coping with the symptoms of PD and side effects of today’s medicines. I have given a number of presentations and testimonials to newly diagnosed people as well as teams of health professionals at workshops on strategies for coping well with PD. In November 2016, I presented a personal talk, “Beating the Odds Against PD: A Personal Journey” to more than 250 scientists at the Annual Meeting of the American College of Toxicology in Baltimore, MD. I also gave presentations to local Rotary Clubs. I served as a member of the Parkinson Foundation People with Parkinson’s Advisory Board from 2017-2020 and currently on the Executive Board of the Parkinson’s Foundation, Carolinas Chapter. As a captain for “The Young Onsetters” team and member of the organizing committees, I have been recognized for local Moving Day walks since its inception in 2012. My team has raised over $100,000 for the last 10 Moving Day events. So lets continue with your generous giving if you are able. I am participating in Moving Day NC Triangle, benefiting the Parkinson's Foundation Please consider being a part of my team or sponsoring me, and I encourage you to get your friends, family and coworkers involved. Thank you for helping me reach my fundraising goal to support the vital work of the Parkinson's Foundation
