Thank you for helping me reach my fundraising goal to support the vital work of the Parkinson's Foundation.
Why Move for Moving Day?
Did you know that someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease every 9 minutes in the United States? No one should have to face Parkinson’s alone. That is why the Parkinson's Foundation provides a community of support to give people the resources and help they need to live well with Parkinson’s.
Support our mission to help every person diagnosed with Parkinson's live their best possible life now. Your gift will help us fund better research, better treatment and better lives.
As you may know, I have been volunteering with the Parkinson’s Foundation for the past six years. Every day, I have the honor and privilege of working with people who live with Parkinson’s or who care for a loved one with PD. I continue to be inspired and humbled by their resilience and will. I choose to work with the Parkinson’s Foundation for a few important reasons: their dedication to research, working toward a cure, and commitment to community programming. Although this is a national organization, I have seen firsthand, as part of the National Grant Committee that funds go directly to our local non-profits who provide exercise and arts programing for PD. Most of these non-profits are able to offer groups free of charge because of your donations. Although there are pharmaceutical interventions that help PD symptoms, the only thing proven by multiple scientific studies to actually slow the progression of this disease is exercise.
During this time of COVID, I am impressed that all of the Parkinson Foundation grantees have maintained and even increased their group offerings virtually, both live and pre-recorded. These exercise and music classes have been a lifeline for my clients, preventing decline in their illness.
This year we are not able to gather in October for our annual walk on the Charles River, but Moving Day is happening! Again, I have volunteered as the chair of the Movement Pavilion, and we will be moving virtually via Facebook Live Stream on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 10am. I hope you will join us as we move together, although socially distant.
Please consider a donation to the Parkinson’s Foundation today. No amount is too small. These funds help our neighbors with PD in so many ways.
