Proeducación

Proeducación IAP (Proed) is a nonprofit organization, without political or religious affiliations, that was established in 1997 with the mission of improving the quality of education in public elementary schools in Mexico. Proed promotes the development of an integrated school community by partnering with ministries, school authorities and teachers, education service providers and other nonpartisan organizations.

In 2013, Proed worked in 46 public elementary schools directly benefiting 15,464 students, 769 teachers and 4,110 parents. Mexico faces a serious deficit in providing its students with a quality education. One out of three Mexican children drops out of school by the age of 15, and one of two does not acquire the fundamental life skills needed to face the challenges of today’s society. Teachers and school administrators require proper training and support to perform their jobs effectively in an increasingly challenging environment affected by social divisions, inadequate infrastructure and disinterested communities. Additionally, initiatives are needed to raise interest and participation by parents in their children’s education.

Proed involves all stakeholders in creating a supportive environment and an engaged school community by carrying out the following main activities:

• Courses and extra-curricular activities for students
• Courses and talks for parents
• Teacher training
• Creation of parent-teacher committees for school improvement projects
• Installation and operation of school libraries
• Installation and operation of computer classrooms
