Founded in 1991, GRAACC is a nonprofit organization that advocates for children and teenagers with cancer in Brazil. The Support Group for Youth and Children with Cancer (Grupo de Apoio ao Adolescente e a Criança com Câncer), or GRAACC, seeks to provide full medical and hospital treatment with the most advanced scientific standards, to guarantee children and youth with cancer their right to have a chance at being cured without compromising their quality of life. It offers a wide range of support at no cost to patients and their families, including multidisciplinary assistance, treatment and follow-up.
Since 1998, GRAACC have been running a hospital in a partnership with the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), which has set a benchmark in the treatment of cancer. The hospital conducts medical research and trains doctors and medical staff. The multidisciplinary medical team are leaders in the region in the field of pediatric oncology.
The GRAACC Hospital assists children and youth from 0 to 18 years of age from all over Brazil. Each year, it treats more than 4,000 patients. In 2018, the hospital saw 528 new cases, and provided 19,698 chemotherapy treatments and 38.721 doctor consultations. The cure rate of GRAACC hospital is similar to the hospitals in developed countries.
