Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina
Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina (FVSA) is an independent non-governmental organization (NGO) that was created in 1977 in Argentina. Its mission is to promote solutions for environmental conservation, sustainable use of natural resources and responsible behavior in the context of climate change.
Since 1988, FVSA has been associated with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s largest conservation organization. FVSA has three offices, with a staff of 40, in Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata and Puerto Iguazú. Its multidisciplinary staff comprises: biologists, agricultural and forestry engineers, geographers, museum experts, communicators, teachers, lawyers, economists and graduates in Environmental and Political Sciences.
FVSA’s work is centered on the following issues and activities:
- Protected Areas: In FVSA’s more than 35 years of history, it has contributed to the identification, creation and/or effective management of more than 7.5 million hectares in 20 public and private terrestrial and marine protected areas.
- Land Use Planning: The activities of agriculture, livestock farming, forest exploitation and fishing generate impacts on natural resources. The first three contribute to the agricultural frontier expansion and promote large scale deforestation. Land use planning is one of the tools that FVSA promotes to face these regional problems.
- Responsible Behavior: FVSA implements projects to promote production models that ensure the sustainable use of natural resources in the long run and introduce responsible consumer practices.
- Environmental Education: FVSA carries out actions to improve environmental education in schools, as content is detailed in the education program of each Argentinean province.
