Centro Andino de Educación y Promoción (CADEP)
Centro Andino de Educación y Promoción José María Arguedas (CADEP) is a nonprofit organization based in Peru that generates critical thinking; promotes participatory, innovative experiences around sustainable human development; and partners with Quechuan indigenous communities to influence democracy and integration into society.
CADEP works in areas with extreme poverty, including Apurímac (Cotabambas and Abancay provence) and Cusco (Cusco and Chumbivilcas provence).
CADEP develops projects around three main objectives:
- Promotion of democracy, citizenship and a culture of peace: Empowers indigenous communities, and in particular women and disadvantaged groups, to exercise their rights and strengthen their identity to help create a more equal and just society.
- Promotion of intercultural education: Advocates for authentic intercultural education, which places the cultural experience at the center of schools’ curriculum and facilitates intercultural dialogue.
- Alternative community development: Promotes the implementation of alternative systems of production based on sustainable management of natural resources and the environment, creating favorable conditions for increased earnings through application of both traditional knowledge and practices and contemporary technology.
