Tell Governor Cuomo: Don't Break Your Promise on Plastic Bags

Last February, Governor Cuomo and the state legislature killed a New York City law that aimed to reduce the use of plastic bags.

With his veto, the Governor promised a statewide solution. In January, Cuomo’s Task Force released its report but failed to recommend a path forward for New York.

Governor Cuomo promised leadership but instead has left New Yorkers holding the bag.

Each year, billions of single-use plastic bags are used across New York State. Many bags end up on our streets and make their way into our waterways.

The problem is obvious; each year at our Riverkeeper Sweep cleanup, plastic bags and microplastics are ubiquitous throughout the Hudson River Estuary.

Governor Cuomo must follow through on his promise to address plastic bag pollution. Urge him to take action and introduce legislation to address single-use plastic bags.
