Hosting an Event for Rush

Thank you for your interest in hosting an event to support Rush University Medical Center.

Since its founding more than 175 years ago, Rush’s income has been reinvested into its mission and into the health of our communities in Chicago and around the world. This commitment to provide high-quality care to patients and their families couldn’t be possible without generous supporters like you.

Those who participate in and lead fundraising events in support of our mission are key partners at Rush. As a member of this initiative, your charitable support will make possible the critical work of our expert team of doctors, nurses, volunteers and administrative staff. Many of our specialized services and research projects would not be possible without philanthropy.

If you are interested in hosting a fundraising event on behalf of Rush, please download and submit a completed Outside Events Toolkit to the Office of Philanthropy at 1201 W. Harrison St., Suite 300, Chicago, IL 60607, or fax a copy to (312) 942-5581 at least 60 days prior to your scheduled event.

Outside Event Requirements

In order to ensure that all proposed third-party fundraising events are in keeping with Rush’s mission and to comply with regulations pertaining to nonprofit organizations, Rush requires the following from external fundraising event organizers and sponsors (“event sponsors”):
  1. The event sponsor must submit the details of the proposed event in writing to one of the contacts from Rush’s donor engagement team in order to receive authorization to conduct an event. This information should be submitted at least 60 days prior to the event date. Someone from the donor engagement team will respond to the event request no later than 15 days after receipt.
  2. Rush must approve all information published or transmitted to the public about Rush and must provide advance written approval of any use of the Rush name or logo. Rush is not responsible for unauthorized use of its name, or for the actions of the event sponsors who solicit funds on behalf of Rush.
  3. The event sponsor will bear all costs associated with the event. Contractual agreements for space, materials and services, and the accompanying liability are the sole responsibility of the event sponsor and not that of Rush.
  4. Rush will not participate in executing the details of the event.
  5. All donations received by the event sponsor must be delivered or mailed to Rush within two (2) weeks of receipt.
  6. Rush will acknowledge donors who make contribution checks payable to “Rush University Medical Center” individually with a thank-you letter including pertinent tax information. When donations are made payable to the event sponsor, and then provided to Rush, the Sponsor will receive an acknowledgment from Rush for the entire amount of the donation.
  7. The event sponsor must comply with all necessary local or governmental regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, local charitable fundraising and solicitation acts, registering with appropriate agencies, purchasing insurance and required licenses and permits. NOTE: There are additional considerations and requirements associated with raffles and other forms of gambling.
  8. The event may not involve, support or be associated with any partisan or lobbying activities.
