Karen's Legacy Team Captain John Herman tells us: On August 14, 2007 our family lost Karen to a malignant brain tumor. Karen was a wonderful mom, wife, and "Nana." Since her passing our family has expanded with the addition of two more beautiful grandchildren. Unfortunately, they will never have the opportunity to meet Karen, experience the security of her arms around them, or the see the brightness of her smile and beautiful blue eyes.
Karen was one of the most giving people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She was always concerned for others above her own needs. As she faced the devastating news of brain cancer, her concern was not for herself, but rather her family and all those who would follow in their battle with brain cancer. Her wish for her legacy was that our family carry on her fight against brain tumors by participating in the SBTF Race for Research and raising as much money as possible for research. That is why we participate every year since. To keep alive her legacy so other families may not suffer as ours has.
The Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation (SBTF) is devoted to funding a cure for brain tumors and providing support and outreach to patients and their families. Since 2005, the SBTF has awarded more than $2.3 million dollars in research grants to 41 researchers from across the Southeast.
The SBTF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and a public charity; your gift to the Foundation is tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Donations may be made to the Foundation by check or electronic remittance (e.g. online), or on-site during Race For Research. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have.
