Leader of the Band

Leader of the Band is a team in honor of Eddie Pickens - an immeasurably kind husband, father, friend, uncle, and musician. He was 62 when he was diagnosed with a Stage IV inoperable Glioblastoma and passed only 8 months later in 2018. We started this team to preserve his memory and to share his core passion - music. The team is named after a song he wrote right before he was diagnosed; the song conveys a beautiful message around the importance of family and the brevity of life. This year, we will all proudly run in his memory and share the spirit of the last song he ever wrote, The Leader of the Band.

We are participating in the Race For Research, a fundraising event that raises money to support brain tumor research. If you've not participated before, there's no time like the present.

You can participate by running (or walking) the course route along with me, by helping me spread the word about this fundraising event, or by making a donation toward my fundraising effort.

The Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation is recognized as as a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization and as a public charity. Donations to the SBTF in support of my fundraising efforts are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Your support will have a positive impact on the life of a brain tumor patient because it generate awareness about this disease and will help to fund much needed brain tumor research.

Additionally, you can double your donation through employer matching programs! Be sure to check with your Human Resources Department to determine if your company will match your donation. If they say yes, you can double your donation with just a few clicks of your mouse.

Thank you again for your support!
