Urge Senators Booker and Menendez to Block Trump's Dangerous FERC Nominees

We need your help because Donald Trump is trying to push through pipelines, promote fracking and approve other dirty fuel infrastructure. He is doing this by nominating pro-fossil fuel zealots by trying to stack the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). If appointed, Trump’s nominations of Robert Powelson and Neil Chatterjee would be cheerleaders for the industries they’re supposed to regulate because of their ongoing history promoting dirty fuels. Given their record, they will clearly carry out Trump’s agenda by limiting consideration of environmental impacts, while ignoring public review and oversight. That is why you need to contact Senator Cory Booker and Senator Robert Menendez to stand up for the environment and block these nominations.

Trump’s nominees should really be called Mr. Coal and Mr. Fracking. Powelson was a member of a lobby group for the fracking industry and even attacked environmentalists. While he served on the Public Utility Commission of Pennsylvania, he tried to stop the public from speaking out against pipelines and helped push them through. Neil Chatterjee has been a leader in the fight to undo the Obama Administration’s historic Clean Power Plan by promoting coal. Chatterjee even works for Senator Mitch McConnell as the lead person to get the Senate to block action on climate change and clean air. Together these nominees would rubberstamp the hundreds of fossil fuel proposals and pipelines across the country, but we can stop them.

It is critical to get Senator Booker and Senator Menendez to champion the environment and be leaders in the fight to block these nominations. It is not enough to vote NO, we need them to stand up, speak out against these nominations, and get their colleagues to vote NO. For a state like New Jersey that is being inundated with 15 pipelines in the region, the stakes are extremely high. Recently, we have had a temporary victory now that FERC does not have a quorum to approve pipelines like PennEast or the Transco Northeast Enhancement Supply Project. However, if appointed these nominees will help change the rules at FERC to make it easier to take people’s property with eminent domain, while approving these projects.

We really need you to call both Senator Booker and Senator Menendez’s offices in D.C. and N.J., but if you cannot you can send a message by clicking here.

You Can Say:

1.        I am calling to urge the Senator to block the President’s dangerous nominations of Neil Chatterjee and Robert Powelson to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Both of these nominations are pro-fossil fuel tied to the industry with clear conflicts of interest.

2.        Our state has over 15 proposed and existing pipelines that cause major environmental impacts threatening our drinking water and public safety, while causing more air pollution and climate impacts. Given their pro-fossil fuel records, Trump’s nominations care more about the oil and gas industries than the people or environment of our country. This could lead to the rubberstamping of pipelines such as PennEast, Transco, and other dirty fuel projects.

3.        It is not enough to simply vote NO against Trump’s FERC nominations. We need you to stand up and fighting these nominations by speaking out against them and getting your colleagues to vote NO. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to the environment.

Dear  [Decision Maker],

I am asking you to block President Trump's dangerous nominations to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Trump's nominations of Neil Chatterjee and Robert Powelson have major conflicts of interests and are tied to the industries they're supposed to regulate. We are very concerned that if approved, these appointments will try to limit public review and oversight as well as stop environmental reviews.

It is not enough to simply vote NO against Trump's FERC nominations. We need you to stand up and fight these nominations by speaking out against them and getting your colleagues to vote NO. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to the environment.

Sincerely,
