Demand Governor Christie Permanently Ban Fracking in Delaware River Basin

We need you to help protect the Delaware River and call for a permanent ban on fracking! We must stand up for the river because it provides drinking water to 17 million people. Nearly seven years ago, the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) put in a temporary moratorium on fracking in the Basin. We are concerned, however, that there are attempts being made to lift the moratorium given what’s happening in Washington. With the Fossil Fool in the White House, the Delaware River could be threatened with fracking and more pipeline proposals. We need you to write to the DRBC voting members- including Governor Christie and the Army Corps to demand a ban permanent ban fracking!

Around four years ago, there was a proposal to lift the moratorium and adopt weak rules on fracking. When the moratorium was put in place, there were plans for more than 10,000 fracking wells in the Delaware River Basin. Fracking would require hundreds of billions of gallons of water pumped underground with toxic chemicals. These fracking fluids would destroy our pristine streams and cause the loss of tens of thousands of acres of forests. Our forests would be even more fractured by increased pipelines with hundreds of new proposals in the region. This would destroy the basin turning the Delaware River Valley into Oklahoma. Thousands of people have come out to ban fracking in the Basin and we need you to add your name to protect our water!

Recently, signals from the DRBC staff have raised alarm bells that the Commission may be taking steps to adopt regulations and lift the current moratorium. We must keep public opposition strong against fracking and urge voting members - the Governors of New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, representing the Basin states, and the Army Corps of Engineers, representing the federal government to make the ban permanent. Without a permanent fracking ban, residents in the Delaware River Basin could be faced with well pads, compressor stations, drilling rigs, and countless miles of pipeline construction. Stop this threat from happening and make a comment to protect the Delaware River today!

Thank you for taking action,

Permanently Ban Fracking in Delaware River Basin

Dear [Decision Maker],

We urge you to enact a permanent ban on all gas development, including drilling and fracking, in the Delaware River Watershed. Since 2010, the overwhelming weight of scientific evidence and on-the-ground experience where fracking has wreaked havoc prove that fracking simply isn't safe. Fracking in the Delaware River Basin would destroy tens of thousands of forests, open space, and wildlife habitat. At the same time, it will pollute our waterways and threaten the drinking water for 17 million people. We must end this constant threat and put an end to fracking. If we ban fracking, we can help stop the various proposals for dirty infrastructure and pipelines passing throughout our region.

We ask you to make the ban on fracking permanent to ensure the Delaware River stays an environmental treasure on the East Coast. Without a permanent fracking ban, residents in the Delaware River Basin could be faced with well pads, compressor stations, drilling rigs, and countless miles of pipeline construction. We would see scars cut through our land as pipelines bring natural gas to the coast for exports. Please protect our environmentally sensitive lands and drinking water with a permanent ban on fracking.

Sincerely,
