Ask Your Legislator to Vote NO A3116/S879 to protect the Delaware and River Bay!

We need you to contact your Legislators and tell them to vote NO on a bill that would lead to more pollution in the Delaware and River Bay!

A3116 (Burzichelli)/S879 (Sweeney) would allow the sprawling 1,500- acre Chambers Works in Salem County along the Delaware River to accept hazardous waste from all over the region. We don’t know to what level all this chemical waste will be treated or how much they’ll be able to release. The people nearby this facility are already suffering from DuPont's pollution, expanding their operations would be a catastrophe.

  • Currently, they can only discharge waste generated in site. This bill will make them able to bring in waste from all over the region. This will expand the amount of waste and different types of it.
  • Although Dupont said they’re not bringing frack waste directly into this facility, it could become co-mingled from waste that comes from other facilities.
  • We are troubled by this proposal because the expansion would bring even more waste from fracking and spills.
  • We don’t know to what level all these new chemicals will be treated or how much they’ll be able to release, since they have old permits.
  • They never did an anti-degradation analysis for the release of treated wastewater or any analysis on the bioaccumulation of toxins in the ecosystem.

Please Contact your legislator and ask them to VOTE NO on A3116/S879! We cannot allow Chamber Works to jeopardize the health of the community and environment of South Jersey!

Thanks for taking action,

Ask Your Legislator to Vote NO A3116/S879 to protect the Delaware and River Bay!

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to pleasure urge you to vote no on A3116 (Burzichelli)/S879 (Sweeney). The bill amends the definition of "existing major hazardous waste facility" in "Major Hazardous Waste Facilities Siting Act." The sprawling 1,500-acre Chambers Works site straddles Pennsville and Carneys Point in Salem County along the Delaware River. The DuPont treatment facility, now Chemours, processed commercial waste from other businesses for more than three decades but stopped in 2011. Now they want to go back full service with this bill. Chemours owns the plant and leases part of the plant to DuPont. They could potentially lease other parts of the facility to other companies.

Chamber Works never did an anti-degradation analysis for the release of treated wastewater or any analysis on the bioaccumulation of toxins in the ecosystem. They already get steam from a dirty coal plant that should have closed a long time ago. This could end up like the battles we faced when they tried to bring in VX Nerve Gas. The people nearby this facility are already suffering from DuPont's pollution, expanding their operations would be a catastrophe. We need to stop this bill from going any further to protect the community and public health of the people of Salem County. Please help us by voting no on A3116/S879!

Sincerely,
