Ask Governor Murphy Not to Gas the Meadowlands

We need your help in trying to stop a massive power plant in the Meadowlands! This proposed plant is in a natural area that is also important for recreation. This mega natural gas plant would be the largest sources of greenhouse gases in our state and will undermine our efforts to reduce greenhouse gases. This plant is unneeded and unnecessary. That’s why we need Governor Murphy to stop this plant. While New Jersey gets the pollution, New York gets the electricity. Not only would this power plant threaten this extensive ecosystem that is coming back, it will impact a dense population residential area. This plant will emit tremendous amounts of air and water pollution, affecting the health of people in an area already impacted by sea level rise and climate change. New Jersey needs to move forward to meet our 100% renewable goals by 2050, this power plant would block those efforts.  Ask Governor Murphy not to gas the Meadowlands and sign an executive order on a moratorium on all fossil fuel electrical generation power plants in New Jersey!

  • This plant could generate almost 2.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide a year
  • This plant will release a lot of other pollutants like nitrogen oxide which will add to ozone problems, this area already has an F rating for ozone pollution
  • This will directly affect children or people suffering from asthma hearth disease or other lung ailments-
  • Coming out of plants cooling tower is chemical drift that contain toxic chemicals like lead, algaecides, fungicides, and volatile organic compounds
  • This is in an area surrounded by the wetlands that is subject to flooding and sea level rise
  • The plant would have to store 1 million gallons of oil as backup on days when you cannot use natural gas, which means there is a chance of a massive oil spill
  • This plant would promote more pipelines and more fracking
  • This power plant would undermine our efforts to combat climate change and reach our 100% renewable goals

Please tell the Governor, don’t GAS the Meadowlands. New Jersey must say NO to this unneeded and dangerous gas power plant. With this proposal, the company makes the money, New York gets the gas, and New Jersey gets stuck with the pollution, climate and health impacts.  Please ask Govern Murphy to sign an Executive Order on a moratorium on fossil fuel power plants, especially this one!

Thank you for taking action!

Ask Governor Murphy Not to Gas the Meadowlands!

Dear [Decision Maker],

New Jersey is being threatened by a massive power plant in the Meadowlands. This mega natural gas plant would be the largest sources of greenhouse gases in our state and will undermine our efforts to reduce greenhouse gases. This plant is unneeded and unnecessary. That's why I am writing to ask that you sign an executive order on a moratorium on fossil fuel electrical generation plants until New Jersey reaches its renewable energy goals. New Jersey needs to move forward to meet our 100% renewable goals by 2050, this power plant would block those efforts.

This plant would promote more pipelines and more fracking and would undermine our efforts to combat climate change and reach our 100% renewable goals. While New Jersey gets the pollution, New York gets the electricity. The expansion of fossil fuel gas projects in New Jersey will only create more climate effects and hinder efforts to have a green economy. New Jersey will never reduce its greenhouse gases and meet its clean energy goals if more fossil fuel plants will be built. We are asking you, don't GAS the Meadlowlands and sign an Executive Order to block all new gas-fired power plants.

Sincerely,
