Tell DEP: Reject SJGas Pipeline Permit Extension and Reject SJG Pipeline!

We need you to tell Governor Murphy and DEP Commissioner McCabe to reject South Jersey Gas’s application to extend permits for their proposed pipeline in the Pinelands! We have a chance to stop the South Jersey Gas pipeline and the DEP must do their job to deny their application for permit extension. The rules have changed since the original permits were granted, legally making them ineligible for extension. We need everyone to tell the DEP that they must reject South Jersey Gas’s request and require them to reapply for these permits!

If the DEP makes South Jersey Gas reapply for these two permits, it will help us fight the pipeline by creating additional delay. It also gives the new Administration a chance to deny them from building it altogether. The DEP MUST tell South Jersey Gas that their permits are no longer valid, and they must re-apply to the agency!

We are fighting to stop the South Jersey Gas Pipeline because:

  • It would cut an ugly scar through the Pinelands, creating irreversible harm to wetlands and streams while threatening one of the largest sources of fresh drinking water on the east coast.
  • We do not need this pipeline! SJG wants to build it so they can repower the B.L. England power-plant and make money. The plant is no longer viable to stay open.
  • The project does NOT serve the needs of those within the Pinelands. Building it there would violate the Pinelands’ Comprehensive Management Plan.

Please tell the DEP to do their job to follow the law and protect our environment by rejecting South Jersey’s request for permit extensions for their proposed Pinelands pipeline!

Thanks for all you do!

Reject SJGas Pipeline Permit Extension and Reject SJG Pipeline!

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to request the DEP deny South Jersey Gas's application for permit extensions for a Freshwater Wetlands general permit as well as the individual Waterfront Development permit for their proposed pipeline in the Pinelands. Since New Jersey's Freshwater Wetlands Rules changed this year, those permits are no longer valid and must be rejected. I urge you to reject their application and require SJG to reapply for new permits under the new rules.

This pipeline will cause irreparable harm to our forests, threaten biodiversity, and cut an ugly scar through the Pinelands. The Department can reject a proposed development to protect public welfare and the environment and must do so with this project. As it stands, the project's permits are outdated according to law and the DEP's own rules have changed. The DEP must reject their application for extension and require SJG to reapply for new permits under the new rules and new Administration.

Sincerely,
