Tell your Congressperson: Support the Sudan Peace, Security and Accountability Act

The lives of half a million people in Sudan are now at risk. Many could starve to death from Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir's blockade of food and humanitarian aid or die from his relentless bombing of villages and refugee camps — similar tactics he used in Darfur to terrorize and murder innocent civilians.

Dear [Decision Maker],

The lives of half a million people in Sudan are now at risk. Many could starve to death from Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir's blockade of food and humanitarian aid or die from his relentless bombing of villages and refugee camps -- similar tactics he used in Darfur to terrorize and murder innocent civilians. We must not let history repeat itself.

I urge you to utilize your leadership and co-sponsor the Sudan Peace, Security and Accountability Act of 2012.

The Sudan Peace, Security and Accountability Act of 2012 will:

* Establish tough new sanctions on Bashir, his cronies and anyone who supports them or their blockade of food and humanitarian aid;

* Address the current humanitarian crisis in South Kordofan, Blue Nile, and Abyei, while continuing to assist in Darfur and other parts of Sudan;

* Increase U.S. engagement with other stakeholders with influence in Sudan;

* Create a broad-reaching sanctions regime to target any government or person who support or assist in the commission of serious human rights violations; and

* Create benchmarks for ending sanctions if the Government of Sudan halts the violence against its own people and works for genuine peace and democracy.

This bill calls for a comprehensive approach towards Sudan to address and end the massive human rights violations that are taking place across that country.

I urge you to support this important legislation so we can provide our government with all the tools and all the authority it needs to seek a comprehensive peace solution in Sudan, end human rights violations, and bring those guilty of crimes against humanity to justice.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
