Tibetan writer Druklo’s (pen-name Shokjang) only ‘crime’ was blogging about the deployment of Chinese security forces in Tibet. He was arbitrarily detained by the Chinese government for over a year before being sentenced on February 17, 2016 to three years in prison.
Shokjang was released on March 19, 2018 after serving his full three year term in prison, but he does not have an easy path ahead of him. It is common practice by China to deprive former political prisoners of their freedom, even after their release. Former political prisoners remain under heavy surveillance, are subject to harassment and intimidation, and have limited freedom of movement. Shokjang will remain under extreme scrutiny with a further 2 years “deprivation of political rights,” as part of his sentence.
Your donation will help enable SFT to monitor Shokjang's release.
