I Support Prop 37

Tell California -- I support GMO labeling!

This November, Californians will vote on an initiative -- Proposition 37 -- that would tell consumers whether or not their food contains Genetically Engineered Foods. We, at Slow Food USA, stand with the California Right To Know Campaign in support of Proposition 37 and this important struggle to protect informed, transparent access to good, clean, fair food. But, we need your help -- we're sending an open letter California voicing our support for Prop 37 and we need your signature!

With just a few weeks left until election day, the stakes have risen. Monsanto, DuPont, Dow, ConAgra and a host of other pesticide and processed food corporations have come up with $34 million to ensure you’re kept in the dark about what’s in the food you eat and serve your family. And, as of today, a vote on Prop 37 appears as if it could go either way.

It is important to note that this isn't just about California. Just last week, Slow Food founder Carlo Petrini stood up in support of Proposition 37 saying it "is important for all of Slow Food and not only for California, but for the entire United States and the whole world." 50 countries already have mandatory GMO labeling laws on the books. Poll after poll shows that the vast majority – up to 90% – of Americans want the basic right to know what’s in their food. But, thanks to the relentless lobbying efforts – and deep pockets – of industrial agriculture, you currently have no way of knowing if the food on your grocery shelves has been genetically altered.

But, we can change that this November. And, as Carlo Petrini said last week: "The world is watching."

We have the chance now to say we stand for the right to know what's in our food -- both in California and around the world.

Will you take that stand with us today? Sign on to our letter and tell the world that you support the right to know what is in your food!
