Save the Manatee Club works with concerned citizens and our partners in the Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Partnership together with rescue partners worldwide, to ensure any injured and stranded manatees are rescued and rehabilitated after catastrophic storms such as Hurricane Dorian.
During powerful storms, manatees face significant risk. Storm surges can cause manatees to go far inland to areas they would not normally inhabit, and they can become trapped in those areas when the water recedes. In some circumstances, rapidly receding waters can also leave manatees stranded.
To learn more, watch our video above about manatees and hurricanes and consider donating to our Emergency Rescue Fund to assist with manatee rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
Hurricanes can be incredibly stressful for all manatees, and especially
to young calves. Young manatees can easily be separated from its mother
during powerful storms, so it's especially important to look out for
calves after a hurricane has passed and make sure they are not left
