Welcome to our team page. This team is created in honor of my husband, Shuvanon, as he fights desmoplastic small round cell tumors (DSRCT- a rare pediatric form of sarcoma). The Race to Cure Sarcoma (RTCS) is a Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA) event that allows thousands of people that are affected by sarcoma across the country to come together. These events provide an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for much-needed research.
Some sarcoma facts:
- Sarcomas are cancers that are found in bone and soft tissue (connective tissues such as fat, muscle, cartilage, blood vessels, and lymph vessels)
- Sarcomas make up about 1% of all adult cancer diagnoses
- About 15-20% of all pediatric cancer diagnoses are sarcomas
- Sarcomas can develop anywhere in the body
- Sarcomas are difficult to detect and diagnose
- There are over 50 different subtypes of sarcoma
- It is often referred to as the "forgotten cancer"
Why you should join our team:
- Shuvanon is awesome
- We hope to foster a community to continually raise money for the thousands of families that are impacted by sarcomas every year
- One of our main goals is to provide hope to many survivors and their loved ones by raising money to fund research into better treatments and cures
- We want to have some fun for a good cause
Please consider joining us in supporting the mission of the SFA with a gift or by joining us for the race!
All of our love,
Shuvanon Strong
