Stop Abuse and Neglect of Migrant Children

No matter where children live or come from, all children deserve basic human rights and protections. Lawyers visiting a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility in Clint, Texas, last week revealed children surviving in appalling conditions, without showers, soap, or toothbrushes, and forced to sleep on a concrete floor, with older children stepping into care for neglected younger children.

As people of faith we are appalled by this systemic abuse and neglect being perpetrated by our government. We are asking you to take action now, to send the message that all children are made in the image of God and anything that assaults their dignity should be fought. Children are entitled to basic human rights and protections no matter where they come from or where they live. Please send an email right now to the Department of Homeland Security telling them to end the inhumane treatment of children and begin investing in long-term solutions that will keep families together and thriving.

Stop Abuse and Neglect of Migrant Children

Dear Acting Secretary McAleenan

No matter where children live or come from, all children deserve basic human rights and protections. As people of faith we are appalled by the conditions migrant children are experiencing at the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) station in Clint, Texas. This is the one station lawyers have been able to visit, we can only image what happens at those that are unseen. We urgently call on you to exercise your authority to do the following:

1. Stop separating children from their families and reclassifying them as unaccompanied minors.
2. Uphold the Flores Settlement Agreement to remove any obstacles that will cause unnecessary delays to reunite children with their parents or family members and that keep children in detention for lengthy periods of time.
3. See that all children under their custody enjoy safe and sanitary conditions that would be afforded to any child outside detention.

All children are made in the image of God and deserve to live in safety and peace. It's time to reunite children with their loved ones.

Sincerely,
