A Call for Just Immigration Policy

Migration involves loss and hope. That’s probably why it is a quintessential experience of the Christian faith, from Sarah to Ruth to God entering human existence in the form of a child who had to flee persecution.

Our lives are connected to tatarabuelas, abuelas, and madres who left lands to protect their children and pursue dreams. And our stories are connected to lands and antepasados that have welcomed people for ages.

Mobility is part of human existence and is as natural as the flow of water. In harmony with creation and the native people of the land, people have a right to remain in a land or migrate to another one for well-being or safety.

Join us in telling Congress we believe in immigration policies that honor the God-given dignity of every person, protect family unity, and promote thriving communities.

A Call for Just Immigration Policy

Dear [Decision Maker],

As a person of faith, I believe in advocating for immigration policies that honor the God-given dignity of every person, protect family unity, and promote thriving communities.

In these trying times, immigrant people in the United States have become a target of political campaigns and strategies that dehumanize, devalue, and harm them. Therefore, I call for:

-Humane and dignifying treatment of people, especially children, at every stage of the immigration process
-An end to the criminalization of immigrants, mandatory detention, and cruel practices that harm immigrant people and separate families
-Dignifying and responsible enforcement of just immigration laws that implements creative alternatives to the current appalling practices
-Pathways to permanency and stability for families and people whose home has been this country and wish to have a permanent status

Ultimately, I call for a creative immigration system that fairly, graciously, and thoroughly approaches human mobility.

In Faith,
