Boss - exam

Your membership saves lives.

When 2-year-old Boss’ guardians finally brought him to SPCA Florida’s Medical Center—three days after his dog fighting injury—there was severe swelling, puss, odor and exposed bone. He had stopped eating and was whimpering in excruciating pain. Staff immediately administered pain medication and antibiotics, sedated and then cleaned the Boston Terrier’s degloved leg. X-rays confirmed his back leg was not fractured, but additional tests revealed even more neglect—Boss was heartworm positive and loaded with hookworms.

Boss - HBOTBoss will require bandage changes every two to three days and will undergo hyperbaric oxygen therapy to help promote healing to his damage and infected tissue. The only clinic in Lakeland to offer this state-of-the-art technology, hyperbaric oxygen therapy will deliver highly concentrated levels of oxygen directly to Boss’ bloodstream and infected areas. Doctors are hopeful his bone will not become infected, which could lead to life-threatening sepsis. Because of how his skin was sliced near his injury, it could take months for Boss to recover. His veterinary treatment costs are already $1,600, and SPCA Florida is committed to giving the sweet tempered dog the second chance he deserves regardless of how much it costs.

Please consider giving a lifesaving gift today to help save Boss and other innocent pets like him. As heartbreaking as it is, Boss’ story is not unique. Every day SPCA Florida takes in ill, injured, and neglected dogs and cats, pets who are relying on generous donors to make their happy endings possible. We invite you to be a part of their miracle by becoming an SPCA Florida member today. As a member you’ll receive our Nose for News publication and special event invitations.

On behalf of the pets and people we serve, thank you.
