A. When you fundraise, you provide much-needed funds to support caregivers and people diagnosed with dementia in Ottawa and Renfrew County.
Monies raised here stay in Ottawa and Renfrew County. As the recognized provider of support for people living with dementia and their care partners in the 613 region, the Dementia Society provides programs, services and support to enhance quality of life for our community.
A. The BrainyActive Challenge is The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County’s annual fundraiser to bring our community together to take action to prevent and delay dementia. Anyone can take the BrainyActive Challenge by doing a brain-boosting activity every day for 21 days, this September.
It's simple, pick from one of the 3 categories and connect with an expert on the subject. Day by day, you will be guided to make small adjustments to reach your goal to build a new brain-boosting habit!

A. In 2022, join your community in a brain-boosting virtual fundraising event: the BrainyActive challenge! Starting September 1st, 2022, the Dementia Society is challenging the Ottawa and Renfrew County community to do a brain-stimulating activity every day until Thanksgiving to improve brain health and raise awareness and funds for dementia support.
This challenge engages people to connect with loved ones and community safely both virtually and in-person while respecting COVID measures.
You can register anytime between May 7, 2022 and September 1, 2022!
A. You can sign up and start your fundraising by visiting our registration page, and choosing one of the registration options: Form a Team, Join a Team or Register as an Individual.
A. There is no fee for registration, any amount raised is appreciated. We encourage all participants to raise a minimum of $125. If you raise $125, you earn a BrainyActive participant kit.
A. Yes we love families! You can come up with lots of fun activities for the young and young at heart. People with dementia are highly encouraged to participate, accompanied by a friend or family member who can be with them while they do their BrainyActivities. This challenge is for everyone and all abilities. Find the activities that work best for you, and enjoy! Please contact The Dementia Society if you have any questions or concerns.
A. We welcome and appreciate support in a variety of ways:
- Make an online donation by visiting BrainyActiveChallenge.ca. If there is a specific person you would like to support, find them by using the Search Participants tool. If you would like to give a general donation, simply click on Donate and select Make a General Donation.
- Send a cheque by mail payable to The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County or call 613-523-4004 (toll free 888-889-6002) to make a donation by phone. Our address is 1750 Russell Road, Suite 1742, Ottawa, ON, K1G 5Z6.
A. Yes, all donations over $10 are eligible for a tax receipt.
A. As we were heading in to year 24 of the walk our signature fundraising event—COVID-19 happened. As a result, we have taken the opportunity to create a campaign that speaks to the importance of brain health and activity for all abilities, while still raising fun and funds for people living with dementia and their caregivers in Ottawa and Renfrew County. We hope you’ll take the BrainyActive Challenge!
