I'm participating in the Dementia Society’s BrainyActive Challenge starting on September 1, 2022. The Dementia Society is challenging the community to do a brain-stimulating activity every day for the whole month to improve brain health and raise awareness and funds for dementia support in our region. Challenge accepted.

Did you know that there are many risk factors that can lead to the development of dementia? Modifying our behaviours, even in simple ways, can help fend off, or even prevent dementia. That’s called being BrainyActive!

So, in the month of September, I’ll be doing a brain-boosting activity each day doe 21 days. The point is to keep or get moving, stay connected and try new things, all while raising funds for the Dementia Society. The money we raise here stays in Ottawa and Renfrew County, where more than 24,000 people have been diagnosed with dementia. The need is great in our community, particularly during this time of social isolation. With your help, we can do more to keep people engaged and connected in their homes and increase resources to caregivers needing expert, compassionate support.

I'm hoping that you'll help me reach my fundraising goal. By supporting my BrainyActive Challenge, you'll be helping the Dementia Society to extend the reach of their programs and services to help more people in Ottawa and Renfrew County facing dementia.

Whatever you can give will help, it all adds up! For example, a donation of $50 helps to purchase dementia-appropriate activity kits that can be loaned free of charge to a person living with dementia. This can provide hours of meaningful engagement, a benefit to the person living with dementia, and the caregiver.
